Privacy &
cookies.
Short version: we don't collect any of your data. The calculator runs entirely in your browser — your salary never leaves your device. There's no sign-up, no account, nothing tracked.
The gist
No accounts. No analytics tracking you across the web. No third-party cookies. No data sold to anyone. The calculator works in your browser, your numbers stay with you, and the only thing we store is a temporary copy of your tax result so the "Where it goes" page can show you the right breakdown when you click through.
What we collect
Functionally nothing. TaxSlice is a static website — there's no server-side database, no user accounts, no signup forms. When you use the calculator, the calculation happens entirely inside your web browser. The numbers you type don't get sent to us, our servers, or anyone else.
What we store
One small thing: when you press Calculate my slice, we save the result of that calculation in your browser's session storage. This is so the "Where it goes" page can pre-fill with your actual tax bill instead of asking you to type it again. Specifically, we save:
- Your total annual tax bill (the calculated figure)
- The gross salary you entered
- Any dividend income you entered
- A timestamp
This data is stored locally in your browser only. It's automatically wiped when you close the tab — sessionStorage doesn't persist across browser sessions. We never receive any of it.
Cookies
We don't use cookies. No tracking cookies, no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, no third-party cookies. None at all. That's why there's no annoying cookie banner.
Under UK PECR (the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations), the sessionStorage we use for the calculator-to-breakdown handoff is considered "strictly necessary" for the functionality you've requested, so it doesn't require explicit consent. But we mention it here anyway because we'd rather over-explain than under-explain.
Third-party services
The site does load two external resources:
- Google Fonts — for the typefaces (Fraunces, Geist, Geist Mono). Google may receive your IP address as part of normal HTTP request handling. Their privacy policy applies.
- Affiliate partners — when you click through to Quay Mortgages or SME Partner from our "next steps" cards, you leave TaxSlice and their respective privacy policies apply. We may receive a referral fee for successful introductions, but we don't share any of your data with them — they only know you arrived from us.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have rights over your personal data. Since we don't collect or store any personal data about you, there's nothing for us to delete, correct, or hand over. If you want to clear the local sessionStorage data, just close the browser tab — it goes automatically.
Changes to this policy
If we ever start collecting data — for example, if we add a contact form or a save-your-results feature — we'll update this page and date it accordingly. The version you're reading is dated at the top.

Questions about privacy or anything else? You can reach us through the contact details on the partner sites we link to, or just don't use the site if you're uncomfortable. We're a tiny calculator, not a data company.
